Okay, here we go. I've been playing ranger for a long time now, and it will always be my favorite class

I've gone through several good builds, some PVXwikied, some popular vraients such as Splinter Barrage and stuff (ive been using a splinter variant of the usual BP for some time now) but i was staring to wonder if I could make something more effective.

People have been talking alot of Volley and how it is superior to Barrage due to being non-elite. But what about the double recharge and half damage? I guess this would go well with Splinter Weapon, but being a fan of interrupting, i rarely go out into the wilderness without Savage Shot, and NEVER without Distracting shot (ftw!). If you include a res (generally Flesh of my Flesh due to rit secondary), a stance (natural stride, or Whirling or Lightning Reflexes if I need only expertise, and sometimes healing, this crouds up the bar alot.

Also, I have no idea what to use as a viable elite skill in that case. I understand alot of people are fans of BHA, but I generally prefer BA for the damage/degen, etc

So, I'd like to ask the ranger population of Guild Wars, who has a good build, if it exists, using Splinter+Volley for damage but also with interrupts and maybe conditions?

Burning arrow, Poisin tip signet, screaming shot or barbed arrows depending on what kind of bow your using, and epidemic=win

if you have an ally - have him take: great dwarf weapon at max delver r10....

you with splinter barrage...he casts on you every enemy you hit 40% KD on them all!

or splinter wep,barrage,warmongers wep. etc...

Perma-knockdown FTW. You could also get a friend with Conflagration, elementalist with Mark of Rodgort and you will also burn everything.

Complete the ele build with Searing Flames, Burning Gaze, and Glyph of Lesser Energy and have someone bring "They're On Fire!", and you're good to go. Combine with Winter for creatures which take less damage from burning.

I use this a lot these days:

- I am the strongest (at max norn = next 8 attacks +20 dmg)
- splinter weapon
- BHA as elite. No need for another interupt imho
- Volley
- a selfheal
- flesh of my flesh

the other 2 are optional depending on the situation.

What you could do is go R/Me for BHA+Volley+Epidemic and have a hero use Splinter on you. Heros are actually pretty good at applying Splinter when you need it and saves you the hassle from applying it yourself. In addition, you have plenty of room for other skills. I also bring Poison signet which I use as a cover and 2 interrupts and troll. The unfortunate loss of Mending Touch (assuming you're R/Mo) can actually be beneficial as you don't have to worry whether to include it in your bar or not.

The reason I suggest this setup is because though Barrage is more powerful then volley (duh), it uses the elite slot. If you were to use BHA and epidemic, you can potentially daze a small crowd. With volley, you can hit this small gathering all at once. Use splinter to deal the extra damage and you have a combination of both damage, interrupt, and condition spread.

The only time I would take BHA + splinter + volley over barrage + splinter + concussion shot is when I know that I'm going to be facing a big nasty caster boss who absolutely needs to be dazed (basically a dungeon boss).

This will no longer work. A few mounths ago Winter had been changed, the damage calculation will always be done before the damage type is changed to cold damage.

I find that unless working with a farming team build that forces the monsters to group up, Barrage/Volley are wasted. Most of the time I would be hitting 2 monsters at most, a lot of the time only 1. Because of this, I dropped Barrage/Volley for single target damage skills. Don't get me wrong, I will Barrage with a farming team, but nothing else.

Triple Shot + Glass Arrows does remarkable damage, and can be combined with skills like Nightmare Weapon, Conjure Flame/Frost/Lightning, etc. Burning Arrow + Apply Poison/Poison Tip also work well for the single targets.

I have not found an elite to replace Barrage with for the farming builds. Volley hits fewer, and does less damage. There is no other elite I have found to replace Barrage with that fits with the build.

One interrupt every 15s is enough for you?...

put Concussion and D-shot in there, and drop FomF for a Sunspear Rebirth Signet.

y use bha?
u could always use prepared shot+sundering atk+penetrating atk+ concussion shot+distract shot. with this, energy management will be easier sorta and u can daze more than 1 target at a time, this way ur allies can completely shutdown certain casters. When not attempting to interupt, use prepared shot+sundering atk+penetrating atk, it will do alot of dmg against lvl 20 targets or lower / enemies w/ low armor. this build doesnt use volley but w.e.
